Nikon D80 SLR Digital Camera user reviews

"good . I like this camera .Nikon D80 SLR "

"This is one great camera. Just got it a week ago. I had a D50 which is a nice camera, but the D80 has more feature I liked. Two +'s the D80 has I really like was you can take pictures in Black and White and the camera has in-camera editing which is nice. Also the D80 can take multi-exposure pictures like the old SLR cameras could. So if you want a DSLR camera with lots of feature then this is the one to get. "

""I have been shopping for a "prosumer" class camera for a while. It is one of those things that should take time to consider because there are some excellent choices out there these days.

I was deciding between the D80, the D60 and the Canon XSi. The D60 was the front runner for a while because of its affordability, but it has 2 downsides that I couldn't get my mind around for a a camera in this price range.

First of all it can only use NIKON DX lenses. That sort of limits what you can shoot with and I was looking for expandability and freedom.

Secondly was the frame of the camera itself. The D80 has a titanium frame, adding strength and durability. I know this is something unseen and probably not even thought of by most but please consider it guys. The D80 is a workhorse and although a little heavier it is well worth the differnce.

I was looking at the Canon XSi, and was very close to buying it but I kept seeing something over and over again in the ratings and reviews on other photography web sites ....

THE XSi metering is based on the advances made by NIKON. Hmm, if that is the case then why not go with the original and not the pretender? Don't get me wrong the XSi is a fine camera and has a few toys that the D80 doesn't but dollar for dollar the NIKON D80 works out to be a better value for the buck.

I love the solid feel of the D80 in my hands and the controls are where I would put them if I were part of the design team.

One suggestion though, shop around and find the NIKON SCHOOL video, UNDERSTANDING DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY .... You can find it for about 12 bux and is very much worth every penny.

Good luck and happy shooting." "

"I bought this camera from here about 1 1/2 years ago now and I still love this D80! It fits my hands just right. Since then I have bought a handful of lenses, a SB800 flash and some other items. I use it all the time. I love taking nature photography. But I use it for portraits, weddings, events, landscapes, parties and more. I have never had a problem with it. There is so much to learn in digital photography and I always learn something new with my camera. You will not regret getting it. There are newer models now but this is a great camera to start with especially since the price has come down considerably since I have bought it."

"This camera is terrific. I have previously owned a N8008 and a Coolpix 990 so I am familiar with Nikon products. I am very pleased with the D80. The LCD screen is big, bright and sharp. The camera fits nicely in your hand. The menus are intuitive and give the user a great deal of flexibility. This camera can function completely manual or as a point and shoot if you desire. It takes beautiful pictures and the 18-135 lens (equivalent to 28-200 in 35mm. terms because the ccd chip is smaller than a 35mm. frame) is quite versatile. I have read that the lens has a vignetting problem at wide angle, but I have not seen this yet. One thing I am a little concerned about is one day having to clean the sensor (a place where dust likes to accumulate, particularly if you change lenses a lot). Some of the new DSLR's have a cleaning mechanism built in, but Nikon did not include it in this model. Overall I am very happy with this purchase"
