"The Nikon D300 is a great camera for enthusiasts and advanced amateurs. The D300 is fast to focus, has plenty of megapixels, advanced controls, and has a tacky-feeling grip which helps you hold the camera. This is my fifth Nikon.

"Many people say the D300 is not for amateurs. I disagree. The D300 is for everyone. It allows you to do anything you want to do or anything you are capable of doing. I wanted to use old lenses with matrix metering, and I wanted great high-ISO performance. I got all that. I don't care about high speed multiple exposures, but it has that. I do love the layout. Of course you could set it for Auto ISO and forget about it, but ISO is very quick and easy to change if you want more control. Metering mode change is even faster, as is shooting mode, and the array of focus and shooting mode control buttons and switches is off the charts. Options for picture control are endless in the menus. I play with that, but I shoot both RAW and JPG so I always have the real photo available if I mess up the JPGs. The D300 handles shadows better than any camera I've ever seen. In general, exposure accuracy is terrific.I could go on, but you have other reviews to read. I'll just say this camera is giving me more joy than anyone has a right to expect from a camera. I paid a tiny bit more to get it from B&H,[...]"

""i just recently purchased the d300. i was looking to upgrade from my d40. the d40 is a good camera, but i was limited as to what i could do.i take pictures at races and other sporting events so i was limited. i stayed with nikon because they make a great camera plus i already have 4 nikon lens. the d300 is a great camera. i purchased the grip for it to boost it to 8 frames per second. it has great features and versatile.if you want a good camera spend the extra money. it is worth it."
